It's A Setback

Time for a reality check. My time hop app shared that this time last year I was celebrating being down to 163 lbs and down many many sizes. And then I added how I couldn't wait to see where I'd be in a year. Well it's a year later. And honestly? I didn't want to share this. My husband encouraged me to do so. To be transparent. To be honest. Chances are good I'm not alone in this. So maybe is good for some of you to hear too. I hope so.

So it's a year later. And..... I'm 167 lbs and up a size from this time last year.

Sure, I have a good reason. A good excuse. Or do I?

I injured myself a few months back, just after the new year. Finally had surgery to fix the injury and and now am 5 weeks post op. While I'm trying my hardest to stay on track with my eating, my exercise has totally stalled.

It's messing up my mood and my figure. I really need to keep moving forward and also allow myself time to heal.

Will I have to start over? Heck no! This is a set-back. And a reminder that I'm human too. Flawed and everything.

I'm sharing because I want you all to know my struggle is real too. It's important to me to keep moving forward. To accept my present limitations and to know I'm going to kick butt as soon as my surgeon says I'm all systems go.

So stand back and watch out!!!

Let's see where I'll be THIS TIME next year. I'm pumped and ready. Are you??

It Really IS About the Food

It really is all about the food!!! My weight loss stalled out after we moved back to California. Why? We moved in with my in-laws.

My workout slowed down (father in law looked very uncomfortable when I would work out and I didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable in their own home) and my eating was not consistent. I did my best but it was super tough as they were not on the same page and often brought home my red light trigger foods (Oreos, candy bars).

Then I got injured and had my toe surgery.

It's hard to see the scale go up and new skinny clothes fit snug. Really messes with your head.

We moved into our own place the beginning of this month. Back to eating MY healthy food. And have been increasing my activity a bit more with going up and down these stairs now.

And I'm happy that today I'm back down 5 lbs and this proves it's all about the diet!

My husband has been slow to get back to eating MY/OUR healthy foods. Last night I had shakeology ice cream and he had regular rocky road ice cream. When I told him my weight dropped finally he stated its not possible because he has been moving furniture, boxes, etc and getting tons of steps too. He hasn't lost any weight yet. And I have.

Why?

Because he's eating the rocky road and I'm trying no sugar. I'm making the better food choices. I'm really excited to go all in as soon as the doctor says I can. And until then, focus on the food. Keep making smart choices. I can do this!!!! We all can.

It really is 80% nutrition! You can't outrun a poor diet.

1000 Days

Today I hit a major milestone. Today I hit 1000 days on #myfitnesspal. In this photo you can see what my 1000 days looked like. 1000 days, 135 lbs gone forever!!!

What motivates me to keep going? To not quit? To stop with those excuses?

For me it was the losses that motivated me to keep going. Every pound lost was a victory. I lost it slow. I participated in a variety of online accountability groups which had daily accountability posts. At first I was too ashamed to share and then as I lost I got excited to be able to share. And when I didn't have a loss in a week I changed my focus to tweaking my goals. Sometimes my goal for the week had nothing to do with logging food and exercise. Sometimes it was to try a new vegetable every night. Or drink more water every day. Or go sugar free for a full day. And when I was successful with that I felt empowered to keep it up. Before I knew it, a few years flew by and the weight was gone. Now I'm in maintenance mode which is another tough nut, so I'm still working on those goals. I decided it was important to me to be healthy and around for my kids and every time I work out and they join me, it fills my heart with so much joy. Totally motivates me to keep going forward.

Excited to see what the next 1000 days will look like!

Rewards and Prizes for doing what you do anyway

Rewards!!!

Wearing a Fitbit? Why not get some rewards for doing what you're already doing?

achievemint gives you cash rewards for Fitbit steps (I recently won $50) but I think there's now a waiting list to get in. https://www.achievemint.com/

Pact is another app where you put your own money up against others. If you do what you make a pact to do and the other people don't, you win the cash. http://www.gym-pact.com/

Dietbet is another program. You bet you'll lose 4% of your body weight in 28 days. Do it and win your money back plus the money of the others in the bet that didn't lose that 4%. (Money to win but not synced to Fitbit) https://www.dietbet.com/

Walgreens gives reward points for healthy living and you can redeem these points for $5 coupons. https://www.walgreens.com/steps/stepslanding.jsp

And there one I think called simply Exercise Rewards: https://www.exerciserewards.com/

Do you know of another rewards program? Share in the comments below and let's all get stepping!

*I'm in the USA, so these are programs that work here. Not sure if they also work in other countries.
